The Fleet

In early 2011, Empremar S.A. set itself an important challenge: the renewal of its entire fleet of ships that were 25 years-old or more, in a medium term horizon.

The process was initiated in February of that year when M/N “Huasco” was sold to Greek interests, and has continued to date, selling old ships and buying new ones – with state-of-the-art technology – and having specifications that are adequate to the traffics currently developed by Empremar. The first new ship that was incorporated to the EMPREMAR fleet corresponds to M/N “SPL Tarapaca” on September 2011, and the second was M/N “SPL Atacama” on November 2012.
Both ships – M/N “SPL Atacama” and M/N “SPL Tarapaca” – were built at the SPP Shipyard located in South Korea.

Currently, EMPREMAR owns the two most modern bulkers of the Chilean Merchant Marine.
